Turrumurra
The Challenge
Our client was a growing family living in a detached 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom home in Turramurra, Sydney.
The faced the challenge of expanding their existing living space while adhering to strict flame zone regulations.
The parents wanted to relocate their three teenager sons upstairs, creating more space and privacy for their evolving needs.
To do that, they were looking to build a first-floor addition with three bedrooms, a living area, and a shower room.
Addbuild's Response
Addbuild’s Designer carefully addressed these requirements, balancing space maximisation with compliance to council regulations.
Given the constraints of the flame zone and the desire to maintain the ground floor’s appearance, the design proposal focused on creating a functional and stylish upper level. The design incorporated the following elements:
Ground Floor Stairs:
The closest bedroom to the main entry was repurposed into a storage room, allowing for a more open and accessible layout.
Ground Floor Social Area:
Demolishing the internal walls of the existing bedroom facilitated improved access to the main social areas, creating a more fluid and interconnected space.
Design Layout:
The first-floor addition features a north-facing sitting area, ideal for the teenagers to relax and study. This strategic placement enhances natural sunlight and ventilation, contributing to a bright and airy atmosphere.
Cladding and Compliance:
The addition uses cladding that matches the existing home, ensuring visual harmony while adhering to flame zone regulations. This approach aligns with both client desires and council requirements, all within the allocated budget.
Overall, the first-floor addition successfully blends functionality with aesthetics, providing the family with the extra space they need while respecting the constraints of their unique building environment.
