The Challenge
This was originally a three-bedroom home with a garage, carport, and a covered rear deck.
The family’s three young children were sharing a bedroom and it was becoming apparent that the kids were starting to really need their own space, so the family began investigating the options.
They considered moving, but love the position of their home, the surrounding parks and the fact that the kids’ school was close by.
Another Addbuild project inspired the homeowners to investigate how they might build a practical extension to create more space for their three children and a home office for Mum.

Addbuild’s designer has thoughtfully reimagined their home to meet the needs of a growing family.
The solution was a well-planned transformation that maximises the potential of the ground floor while introducing a functional first-floor addition.
The redesigned ground floor now features a spacious master bedroom with a walk-in robe and an ensuite, cleverly converted from the original shower room. The previous bedrooms have been repurposed to expand the living and dining areas, seamlessly integrating with the enlarged deck for enhanced indoor-outdoor living.
Upstairs, the new first floor not only offers stunning views but also floods the home with natural light and fresh air.
To keep the project within budget, the addition was designed to leverage existing ground-floor walls, minimising structural changes and reducing overall costs.
The smart design extends to the staircase, which was strategically placed in one of the smaller original bedrooms. This thoughtful placement creates a walk-in robe for the new master bedroom and minimises disruption to the rest of the house.
Surrounding the staircase, the first floor accommodates bedrooms and a shower room, optimising space and circulation.
Eco-friendly upgrades, including enhanced insulation, energy-efficient appliances, and sustainable lighting solutions, ensure long-term savings on utility bills.
